Pick and Mix – Purple Fire Brush Stroke Nail Art

Hello 🙂

Brushstroke Fire Nail Art

The prompts for this weeks  pick and mix challenge are Favorite Brand and Brushstroke…

my first problem is I don’t have a favorite brand of polish, out of all the polish brands I have tried I actually have two, Illamasqua and Chanel… I don’t think I could ever choose between them!

for this Brush stroke fire look I used

  • Chanel – Black Pearl
  • Chanel – Paradoxical
  • Chanel – Vendetta
  • Illamasqua – Baptiste
  • Illamasqua – Poke
  • Seche Vite top coat

I used two coats of Paradoxical as the base colour, when it was dry I applied wiggly brush strokes of the other polishes, only a couple of each on each nail, with as little polish on the brush as possible

I found that with the Chanel polishes even with a really tiny amount of polish on the brush, they still applied really nicely, so the final look didn’t end up with the defined brush strokes I was hoping for!

Even tho this didn’t work out quite how I was expecting I still like it! 😀

Pastel Galaxy Ruffian Nails! (almost a disaster)

I decided to have a try at a pastel pink and purple galaxy mani, I thought it would be nice to try using some “spring time” colours than black lol!

So I sponge my galaxies add my stars and my glitter, tidy up my fingers and add my topcoat. It was quite late so I decided to go to bed and photograph my nails in the morning (hopefully with some sunshine)

The next day (after my second cup of coffee when I was feeling slightly more human) I noticed it…  Epic shrinking, I honestly haven’t seen anything like it! The polish had shrunk round the edge of my nail but not from the free edge oO

The base colour was still exactly where I had applied it and so was the topcoat! The only way I can think of to describe it is like a sandwich without enough filling! I really should have taken a picture!

After staring at it for a while I realized that I could try removing the flappy bits of topcoat and paint round the edges to make a (almost) ruffian mani.

The polishes I used:

  • Barry M – Blueberry.
  • Sally Hansen – Good To Grape.
  • Barielle Shades – Stardust.
  • Barry M – Shocking Pink.
  • Maybelline – Lilac Charm.
  • Seventeen – Pinking Shear.
  • Sinful Colors – Cinderella.
  • Sally Hansen – Lavender Envy.
  • Illamasqua – Baptiste.
  • Barry M – Pink Flamingo.

I started off with a couple of coats of Blueberry, which is a really pretty pale blue cream.

I added a few drops of Good To Grape, Shocking Pink, Lilac Charm, Pinking Shear and Pink Flamingo onto a plastic box lid (they are great for mixing polish)  I then used a small bit of sponge and some tweezers to dab the polish into my nails.

When that was dry I did the same with Cinderella and Lavender Envy, I applied three iridescent stars to each nail and painted on a little bit of stardust, when it was dry I applied Color Club topcoat.

Then the shrinky doom happened!

I used a nail art brush and pure acetone to remove the flappy edges of the nail polish, Then using a very tiny brush I used Baptiste to fill the gap! Cleaned up my cuticles and the rescue was complete!

I think I managed to rescue this reasonably well! I’m just wondering, has anything like this shrinking ever happened to your nails?

Got Polish Challenge – Purple!

Hallo again! 🙂 Here are my Purple nails for this weeks GOT Polish Challenge 🙂 Sorry about the lack of posts last week I have had a really crazy week! I’ll tell you about it in my my post tomorrow 🙂

Purple Zebra Gradient

For my purple nails I started with a coat of White on White from China Glaze, then I used Baptiste and Poke from Illamasqua and a little bit more White On White for the sponged gradient.

For the Zebra stripe stamp I used some more Baptiste and Moyou Pro plate 04XL.

Look at that sneaky bit of glitter on my middle finger… Grrr! It must have hitched a ride on the sponge, I didn’t notice it until I was cropping the photos!

Lightning Strike Nails

Earlier on there was a thunderstorm almost directly above where I live! Woohoo! Inspiration! 😀 So here are my Lightning strike nails

I used  Greige Gardens and Ivory skull both from Sally Hansen, Black on Black from Sinfulcolors, Baptiste from Illamasqua and cosmic dust from china glaze!

I started out with a coat of Black on Black, then sponged the dark purple Baptiste making sure not to cover the whole nail, after that had dried I used Greige gardens and Cosmic Dust to give the impression of clouds.

For the lightning I used Ivory Skull and a fine brush!

then sponged in a tiny bit more of the white Ivory Skull over the lightning, which worked perfectly up until my little finger nail :/ I think the sponge must have dried out too much or I pressed to hard…

I really love how this looks and I will try this again, maybe with blues and greys or different shades of silver or red and black for Halloween!

Illamasqua Swatches in Poke, Snap, Faux Pas, Propaganda, Baptiste and Scorn.

Here are six lovely polishes from Illamasqua!

Scorn

Illamasqua Scorn

Illamasqua Scorn

This lovely Black has a wonderful satin finish, It is my favorite black polish! it dries in minutes and lasts for ages! I used one coat! with no base or top coat.

Baptiste

Illamasqua Baptiste

Illamasqua Baptiste

This is a lovely metallic dark purple, it’s almost a duo-chrome it’s so shimmery (almost but not quite) it has a very high gloss finish! This took two coats again with no base or top coat!

Propaganda

Illamasqua Propaganda

Illamasqua Propaganda

Apparently this polish is getting quite hard to find, I’m so glad managed picked this up when I did! This is a very dark blue jelly it’s almost black and incredibly high gloss, the formula for this is good but it does tend to drag if you are not really careful when applying it. This was 3 coats  in daylight 2 coats would be fine but my camera was picking up every brush stroke :/

Faux Pas

Illamasqua Faux Pas

This polish has a rubber finish, it is a lovely mid purple with a grey base for some reason it is looking more violet from my camera. This was two coats the formula is really lovely, no streaking or dragging and as with all Illamasqua polishes it dries really quickly!

Snap

Illamasqua Snap

Illamasqua Snap

This is a lovely metallic shade, it has so much shimmer that i would say its close to a foil! this was one thin coat with no base or top coats, I have found that this is a really good polish for stamping!

Poke

Illamasqua Poke

I absolutely love this colour! It’s a bright purple with silver shimmer and a satin finish, the formula flows really smoothly, it dries really fast and it lasts (on my nails) all week!
