Pastel Galaxy Ruffian Nails! (almost a disaster)

Purple Pastel Galaxy Ruffian Nail Art

Pastel Purple Galaxy Ruffian Nail Art

I decided to have a try at a pastel pink and purple galaxy mani, I thought it would be nice to try using some “spring time” colours than black lol!

So I sponge my galaxies add my stars and my glitter, tidy up my fingers and add my topcoat. It was quite late so I decided to go to bed and photograph my nails in the morning (hopefully with some sunshine)

The next day (after my second cup of coffee when I was feeling slightly more human) I noticed it…  Epic shrinking, I honestly haven’t seen anything like it! The polish had shrunk round the edge of my nail but not from the free edge oO

The base colour was still exactly where I had applied it and so was the topcoat! The only way I can think of to describe it is like a sandwich without enough filling! I really should have taken a picture!

After staring at it for a while I realized that I could try removing the flappy bits of topcoat and paint round the edges to make a (almost) ruffian mani.

The polishes I used:

  • Barry M – Blueberry.
  • Sally Hansen – Good To Grape.
  • Barielle Shades – Stardust.
  • Barry M – Shocking Pink.
  • Maybelline – Lilac Charm.
  • Seventeen – Pinking Shear.
  • Sinful Colors – Cinderella.
  • Sally Hansen – Lavender Envy.
  • Illamasqua – Baptiste.
  • Barry M – Pink Flamingo.

I started off with a couple of coats of Blueberry, which is a really pretty pale blue cream.

I added a few drops of Good To Grape, Shocking Pink, Lilac Charm, Pinking Shear and Pink Flamingo onto a plastic box lid (they are great for mixing polish)  I then used a small bit of sponge and some tweezers to dab the polish into my nails.

When that was dry I did the same with Cinderella and Lavender Envy, I applied three iridescent stars to each nail and painted on a little bit of stardust, when it was dry I applied Color Club topcoat.

Then the shrinky doom happened!

I used a nail art brush and pure acetone to remove the flappy edges of the nail polish, Then using a very tiny brush I used Baptiste to fill the gap! Cleaned up my cuticles and the rescue was complete!

I think I managed to rescue this reasonably well! I’m just wondering, has anything like this shrinking ever happened to your nails?

Nail Polish From Japan – Beauty World Dot Artist Set

Hi! Today I have another nail polish from Japan to show you 🙂

This is a Dot Artist set From Beauty World It has three 5ml polishes A bright pink cream, a pale pink almost nude shade and a black cream. The set also contains a small and large dotting tool.

Beauty World - Dot Artist Set

Beauty World – Dot Artist Set

How cute is that packaging! 😀 Because I don’t think I’ll be able to get another one of these sets I decided on a Skittle mani rather than swatching each of the polishes.

Beauty World - Dot Artist Set

Beauty World – Dot Artist Set

The black polish is very nice! it is opaque in one coat, it applied really easily and dotted over both the pink shades really well!

I found that the pale pink is nowhere near as well pigmented, it took four coats to be opaque, it looks nice over the bright pink but it didn’t do so well over the black, it looks grey and washed out which is a shame.

The bright pink is opaque in two coats and dotted really well over both of the other colours.

I found that these polishes have a quite a strong chemical smell but they dried really quickly! I think this is a really fun little set 🙂

I was originally going to post this on the 14th but I have just not had the time :/ and when I have had a little time I’ve been far to tired to do anything.

I have been really busy sorting out my allotment! I am so glad that we have finally got the paperwork! My lovely OH took some time off from work and has spent the last two weeks weeding and digging, (in between playing computer games) I have been weeding, starting seeds, and planting stuff, mostly flowers and early crops so far, The down side of it is my flat is filled with soil and seed trays… So much mess! Ugh! And my hands are really dry… It seems that no amount of hand cream/cuticle balm is helping :/ I have had two horrid nail breaks on my right hand (index and middle fingers) but luckily my left hand nails are still happy!

I like to make sure I have had a couple of evenings during the week where I can sit down, paint my nails and write my posts, over the past couple of weeks there’s been “stuff” happening on there days one of these was my upstairs neighbor (top floor) accidentally dropped a brick from their balcony. They where using it as a door stop, it made a lot of noise and a fair amount of damage on my patio when it landed!  Damaged palm tree, broken pots and a broken bracket on my fence oO I’m so glad that I wasn’t outside at the time!

The other thing that happened was much nicer! We had a little kitty visitor for the night! very cute black and dark brown stripy cat with bright yellow eyes, He was a lost house cat who was crying outside our front door! The poor little guy was very scared of the outside world so we decided to let him in until we found his family. Gave him some food, water and a box and he seemed to be quite happy! My OH managed to find out where the cat lives and left a message (the cat hadn’t come from to far away) His owner came to collect him really early in the morning! In the afternoon the cats owner came back with a bottle of wine and thanked us again for finding and looking after the kitty.  🙂

2True Metallica Collection Swatches!

Today I have all 5 of the 2True Metallica collection polishes all swatched and ready to show you!

2True Metallica Collection

2True Metallica Collection

The green is called Arete, the teal is Aglaia, the purple is called Artemis, Athena is the blue, and the pink is called Aphrodite! I have to say that I’m really liking the names of these polishes 😀

I’m going to be using these as stamping polishes but I thought I should give them a quick swatch just to see how they look. The collection all have a pretty satin finish, so if you want a glossy polish these probably won’t be for you! I really like the slightly matte-ness of these polishes, But then I’m really liking matte at the moment!

2True Athena Metallica Collection

2True Athena Metallica Collection .

Athena is the Ancient Greek goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, just warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill.

This polish is a really nice cool powdery silver blue, I applied two coats over base coat. I really like how frosty this polish looks.

2True Athena Metallica Collection

2True Athena

I did find that there was some dragging and bunching on the second coat, this was the same with all the colours. I found that applying the second coat quite thickly minimized the bunching!

2true Artemis Metallica Collection

2true Artemis Metallica Collection

Artemis, the goddess of the hunt, wild animals, Wilderness, Childbirth and protector of young girls, she often was depicted as a huntress carrying a bow and arrows.

I have already posted about how amazing this polish is for stamping if you would like to have a look you can find that right here.

Artemis is such a pretty lilac colour! I used two coats over base coat!

2true Artemis Metallica Collection

2true Artemis

I found the brush strokes impossible to get rid of! But applying an extra coat with a sponge will get rid of them! I Thought about doing this for all of the polishes but I realized that would be a bit like cheating as I want you to see the polishes as they are!

2True Arete Metallica Collection

2True Arete Metallica Collection

Arete The Ancient greek Goddess of Virtue, Wisdom and Excellence.

It’s green, it’s green and I like it… I normally don’t like green polishes at all but this one seems to be an exception oO. Arete is a pretty pearly spring green, I like this because the metallic silvery tones make this green not overly yellow.

I again used two coats over base coat for this swatch, these polishes do have quite a strong chemical smell, but it doesn’t hang around as long as some other polishes.

2True Arete Metallica Collection

2True Arete

I noticed that all of these polishes show up every little ridge and dimple on my nails :/ I use a ridge filling basecoat (it’s a really cheap one) so maybe an extra layer of basecoat would help? or more buffing!

2True Aphrodite Metallica Collection

2True Aphrodite Metallica Collection

Aphrodite is the ancient Greek goddess of Love, beauty, pleasure and procreation.

Aphrodite is a pretty rosey pink, in the bottle it has a slightly coral hue but that doesn’t show up when it’s on, this really isn’t a colour that I would usually choose, but I’m glad that I did get it because it’s really rather pretty.

I used two coats over basecoat with the thicker second coat to avoid the dreaded bunching.

2True Aphrodite Metallica Collection

2True Aphrodite

I’m really interested to see how this pink polish looks stamped over black!

This rather lovely pale teal is called Aglaia.

2True Aglaia Metallica Collection

2True Aglaia Metallica Collection

Aglaea was the goddess of beauty, splendor, glory, magnificence and adornment.

I think this is a really stunning colour! I would wear this on it’s own. I really like the paleness of this shade I think if the colour was more intense it would detract from the metallic sheen.

I used two coats over base coat

2True Aglaia Metallica Collection

2True Aglaia

To sum up these polishes, the bad bits first, they show up imperfections on your nails, they are a bit stinky, and they tend to bunch up and drag during application.

And the good stuff. The colours are all really pretty, the lovely satin finish, they dry very fast and you only need two coats (or one if you are careful) Oh yeah, and they are amazing for stamping! 😀

When I get a bit of time I’ll show you these polishes stamped over black and white polish! 🙂

Pink Spotty Nails!

While I was going through my nail art box I found my dotting tools and realized that I haven’t used them for ages, so today I have pink spotty nails to show you! 🙂

Color Club Hot like Lava With Orly Liquid Vinyl dots.

Color Club Hot like Lava With Orly Liquid Vinyl dots.

I started with two coats of Hot Like Lava from Color Club, it’s such a bright metallic pink! The weather it horrid today all grey and raining so I wanted something bright 🙂

Hot like Lava applied really smoothly and it dries really quickly, the only problem I found with it is the visible brush strokes but the dots cover those 🙂

I used a medium sized dotting tool and Liquid Vinyl from Orly, I used this one because it takes a bit longer to dry than my other black polishes so I had a bit longer to play before it went all thick and stringy!

Dotty Nails

Unfortunately this really suffered from the dreaded Seche Vite shrinkage :/ but it’s cute and spotty so I don’t mind too much!

Crumpet’s Got Polish Challenge – Valentines Day

Here are my Valentines day nails for todays got polish challenge! I have to say I’m really not into the whole Valentines day thing, I find it all far to commercialized and a bit cheap… But enough of me grumbling lol!

GOT Polish - Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day Nail Art

I started out by making the little stamped decals using Bundle monster BM-401, for the stamping I used Konad special polish in black.  Then color club ulterior motive for half of the hearts and Maybelline Flash Cosmic with a coat of Barry m shocking pink over the top for the rest.

GOT Polish - Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day nail art

While I was waiting for my decals to dry I used Sinful Colors Bubbly and Barry m shocking pink to create a sponged gradient, Bubbly is a polish from my unused pile along with the Maybelline glitter polish. Then I stamped with China Glaze Cosmic Dust using Moyou Pro Collection XL plate 04 for the leopard print.  I used topcoat to stick on the decals, and added a few dots of Ulterior motive. then another layer of top coat to even it all out!

This didn’t turn out quite how I was expecting! But for pink and girly it’s not that bad….

Belle Glamour Swatches And Interview! :D

Today I have a rather long and pic heavy post for you today! There is a little interview with Catriona the creator of the Belle Glamour indie nail polish and four of her lovely polishes to show you. 🙂

Belle Glamour polishes are available Here.

I conducted this informal interview with Catriona via email, and here it is! 🙂

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and where you come from?
I am 20 years old, and going to be 21 in march, I am a stay at home wife and I have a daughter who is almost one. I live in a small town in central Scotland, and have lived in and around this area for my whole life. Recently my mum moved to London, and so we holiday down there, but I’m still a Scottish girl at heart.

2. Why did you decide start making Indie nail polish?
I had needed something to keep myself busy with having anxiety issues etc, and so I began painting false nails and selling them as a small hobby, I then thought about it a lot, and decided I wanted to make my own polish to paint them, having something that I created gives me a real buzz.

3. How did you decide on Belle Glamour as a brand name?
Having self esteem and anxiety issues, I wanted a fresh start, and I knew a lot of other women out there would feel the same, I wanted to make something to let the user feel beautiful, glamorous and worth it. Then I thought about naming it Beautifully Glamorous, and thought of the ‘language of love’ – French. The Word Belle is French for Beautiful, hence, Belle Glamour.

4. How long have you loved nail polish for?
I haven’t adored nail polish for long at all, I was a nail biter up until last summer, and then I wore a lot of false nails to cover this, but gave that up and I am now in recovery!

5. Where do you get your inspiration for new shades?
This, I do not have an answer for exactly, because I don’t really know, it comes from this and that really, one collection I have came from my favourite book/film series, Harry Potter.

6. Tell us about your polish production and how you find time to do it all?
I buy all of my ingredients and test these if they come from a new supplier etc, I then get to the making and documenting stage. My husband works shifts, and so when he is off his work, he looks after our daughter so I can get creative and work.

7. What is the best part about making your own line of polishes?
Definitely being able to see a polish you want, and making a dupe for personal use. I now find myself thinking ‘can I make that myself?’ and if the answer is yes, I wont buy!

8. And the worst?
Glitter everywhere. And I seriously mean EVERYWHERE. I sneeze glitter.

9. And finally If you could have a superpower what would it be?
Hmmm.. tough one. To read minds? Then I could see what everyone would buy 😜

So a big thank you to Catriona for taking the time to do this and for your very brave and honest answers to my questions! 🙂

And now on to the four Belle Glamour polishes I have to show you today, they are Pretty In, Pumpkin Pie, Green Eyed Monster and Silver Arrow.

Belle Glamour Pretty In

Pretty In

The first polish is Pretty In. This is a lovely pink with a blue shimmer, and loads of holographic sparkles!

Belle Glamour Pretty In

Pretty In

Pretty In has a lovely satin finish and applied really smoothly, this is three thin coats over base coat, I think it could be opaque in two coats if I had made them a little thicker.

For me the blue shimmer really made this polish stand out, it gives it a lovely lilac glow and tones down the overall pinkness and really complements the wonderful holographic glitter.

Belle Glamour Pretty In

Pretty In

Here is Pumpkin Pie, this is an orange shimmer with a sprinkling of matte black glitter bars.

Belle Glamour Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin Pie

I applied three coats of I found the formula to be really thick, it made it rather difficult to apply, but by the third coat there was good coverage and a nice amount of the glitter bars which didn’t take any fishing for.

Belle Glamour Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin Pie

Unfortunately orange really doesn’t suit me at all 😦 I’m to pale, and it really highlights my dreadful circulation, lol!  I think that on someone with a darker skin tone this polish would be lovely!

Belle Glamour Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin Pie

The third polish I’m going to show you is called Green Eyed Monster,

Belle Glamour Green Eyed Monster

Green Eyed Monster

This polish is a lovely mid toned green shimmer, with loads of holographic glitter. On the first coat I found the application to be a bit odd, it was a little bit clumpy and difficult to get an even layer, but as the first coat dried it revealed the texture! Which was a wonderful surprise! 🙂

Belle Glamour Green Eyed Monster

Green Eyed Monster

I applied the second coat and the coverage was perfect! It’s not an overly textured polish, but it really adds an extra dimension to this already lovely polish, It makes the Holographic glitter really sparkle too!

Belle Glamour Green Eyed Monster

Green Eyed Monster

And last of all this is Silver Arrow.

Belle Glamour Silver Arrow

Silver Arrow

When I first removed this polish from the packaging, it looked like a very average mid toned silver metallic, but the moment I moved it into the light the holographic shine was revealed!

Belle Glamour Silver Arrow

Silver Arrow

I applied three coats of Silver Arrow, the coverage was wonderful. I have found that with some holographic polishes there can be a lot of creasing up and dragging, but that is really not the case with this one! The application was perfect even with my normal base coat!

Also there where no brush marks and it was wonderfully self leveling!

Belle Glamour Silver Arrow

Silver Arrow

Silver Arrow is definitely my favourite out of the four polishes 🙂

I brought these four polishes at a discounted price and the review of them is my honest opinion 😀
